I'm folding the Medi-Cal forms
into origami swans and floating them
in your bath water,
but it's only meant to compliment you
since I can't seem to win the lottery.
There'll be applications tomorrow
- today is for you.
The best I can do is describe
the carnations I can't afford to send.
Maybe caress your heels with words,
digging as deep as you need.
This year, I'm giving you metaphor.
Spend it like a blank check for Gucci shoes.
In the meantime,
I'll be using a fork to
pry buttons off VCR remotes,
seal all the rewinds in one envelope.
